Default Connection errors

When I am connecting my BlackBerry 8900 to my computer (via usb) it charges it but does not detect it (the OS doesn't and neither does the BlackBerry desktop manager) I've even tried re-downloading and installing it. Now, I've been able to access this before, as I transfered ringtones through the desktop manager. Anyone know what the problem is? I am pretty tech savy, but this has got me stumped.

I even tried updating my USB drivers and motherboard. No idea what's wrong.

The USB cable may be defective, try another BB cable and yes they are specific to the BB. A camera cable may not work
