Lightbulb Looking for solution - poor reception for 8110

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Blackberry Pearl 8110 with AT&T.

I have just moved into a new apartment on the first floor, and I have very poor reception here. My calls go in and out, get dropped, etc., and it drives me crazy! I have done a little research into signal boosters/amplifiers/repeaters/extenders, but I really do not know what would be best to get and at a reasonable price. A lot of the kits spoke of placing an antenna on the top of the house or an upstairs/attic window, neither of which I would have access to in this apartment. It is 1000 sq. ft. and has an outside screened-in porch, if that info helps. I am just looking for something - anything! - that could help boost the signal in my new place. Any help is much appreciated!

Since you are with AT&T, look at the new Microcell. It connects to your home Internet connection and routes calls from your AT&T cell over that and out to a tower. Cost is about $150. There is a monthly charge if you opt for unlimited minutes, otherwise you just use your cell phone plan, minutes and data.

This service is not yet available in my area, and I don't think the Pearl is 3G capable, which the Microcell service requires.

Hmmmm. I thought you could connect EDGE devices as well, but maybe not.

There is no option for you without a 3G-capable device. In short, you're screwed. Time to change carriers.
