Default messages being marked as read on my outlook once sent to blackberry

i've recently purchased a new BB Bold from t-mobile and connected my work emails via internet services - but all messages that get sent to the device seem to get marked as read on my outlook email account ? why would this be happening ? is there a control on outlook that needs to be configured ?
