Default How do I get/originate text messages on 7105t? New to BB.

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Everybody,

I just picked up an old 7105t at a garage sale today and it WORKS! Amazing.

BUT, I've looked at the official manual for this model and, even though I've done what it says to do to receive texts, it isn't working. Anybody have a resource that just shows me how to do it?

I'm a geek but I can't get it to work. Want to make sure it isn't shagged, as the Brits say.

Thanks!
MW

Not sure what you mean by "reading the caller ID info". Where did the SIM card come from? If you put that SIM in a different phone, do you receive texts?

The BB should work as a phone with your SIM unless as you say it's " shagged"

Also Blackberrys will not fully function unless you have a Blackberry Data plan.
So unless you have it set up with one all you have is a phone with zero data services including text, internet.

SMS is a phone product, not a data product, so a BB data plan, or any data plan for that matter, isn't required..

Is the device activated and does the SIM work in another device for SMS?

Is SMS enabled on the account associated with the SIM?

SMS may have been disabled via an IT Policy. Otherwise you open the Messages folder and use the thumbwheel to select "compose sms message". This is one of my all-time favorite models, and for the basics of email/PIM/phone it's still a terrific device.
