I am looking at getting a BlackBerry 7290 from Cingular..my question about email is.. I already maintain my own domain with email...do I have to subscribe to the BlackBerry email service in order to retrieve my domain email? or is just a matter of like now with Sprint that I just connect to my POP3 via their network..

You have to set up an account on Cingular's system, and then you can either have your Cingular BB account pull your pop mail or you can forward it. I have a rule on my domain that forwards all of my incoming mail over to my Cingular account. That way it hits my BB almost instantly.

Okay.. so no matter what.. I have to get a voice plan + BB data plan...is that correct?

You can skip the voice plan, but you must have a BB plan in order to get email and browse. IM, etc, generally the BB unlimited is recommended unless you don't have much mail or use it to browse and IM or other apps.

Kinda need the voice plan.. I guess Im used to my current PCS Vision plan w/ my Treo..i just pull my mail straight from my domain through there network... any thoughts from yal on T-Mobile for a BB? There price plans for voice and data seem pretty reasonable.. Thanks all..

I just moved from Cingular to T-Mobile and got a bb. I previously had a smartphone with Cingular and the data package.

So far T-Mobile has given me more minutes and WAY better customer service for less money. No complaints here. You can get 1500 anytime + unlimited blackberry and text message for 79.99 (though personally I use nights/weekends to I got the 49.99 voice(1500 + nights/weekends) + 19.99 blackberry and added 4.99 for 400 text)

There are a number of ways to get email to your Blackberry. They're all covered in this sticky FAQ: What Are The Methods of Receiving Email On BlackBerry?. Plan-wise, of course, you will need a Blackberry data plan. Without the data plan, all you can do is place voice calls, send text messages, and sync with Outlook via USB cable.
