Report it lost/stolen to the carrier.

In addition to that, she should remove all of her email addresses from her BIS and as an added protection, she might change the passwords on her email addresses.

But if there was no password on the device, the "finder" of the device will be able to read all the data currently on the device. There's no way to prevent that now.

It the future, she might consider installing an application such as SmrtGuard (free) which can remotely wipe the data from the device and also can detect when a different SIM is put in the device.

I found a lost and locked BlackBerry not too long ago. Fortunately the owner had their name and phone number on the lock screen so I called them. Guess what? The BlackBerry started ringing. The number was their cell phone number. D'oh! I just dropped it at a local T-Mobile store and that was that.

The moral is that I couldn't get into the device so all the user's info was secure. I password-protect my BB for just that possibility. When my wife asked me why it was locked I said, "Sorry hun. Basic security and standard operating procedure." Passwords: Just Do It.

Now THAT is funny. I have my Google Voice number on my lock screen, so they can leave me a message and I'll get it in my e-mail.
