I got a hand-me-down blackberry (with BES) from my company when I was promoted two years back. Since I did not like the look of the device, I bought a 8310 curve instead and used it for business purposes (with company BES). I quit the company last year and do not have access to the IT Admn guys any more.
I tried to install Google Talk on my blackberry today and I get a message saying the application is disabled by Company IT policy. When I had a look at the Security Options - General Settings, I observed that my ex-employer's IT policy is still active.
I would appreciate advice on how I can
a) Delete the earlier IT policy
b) Use Google Talk on my device
The only thing that can override an IT Policy on the bb is another IT Policy. The link contains steps on how to replace the IT Policy with a blank one.

"There is more than one way to skin a cat" as the saying goes - midnightdraven's post links to an FAQ outlining several methods. For a device with high enough OS, resettofactory in JL_Cmdr is by far the easiest way.
So technically you are wrong when you say that the way you posted is the only way. It is not. It may have been successful for you, we are not doubting that. But it is not the only way...
