Default Help! My ears hurt.

Please Login to Remove!

A few months ago I installed some new software for my BlackBerry Curve 8330. Ever since, my phone makes a loud screeching noise for no apparent reason. The Verizon dealer found no problem and of course it did not screech when he was using it. Funny how these problems only happen when you are using the phone. Anyway, the noise is loud and hurts my ear. It is not constant. When it happens it may happen once or twice during a call. There is no specific time it happens, it is totally random. It does not happen on every call. One person at Verizon thought an internal timer might be set, but could not find it in the settings. I don't think Verizon will return the phone unless they can duplicate the problem. I like the phone and only wish this would stop. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you're getting feedback, like when a musician holds his guitar near a microphone. Often this is due to physical damage, not software. There is a mesh grill over the speaker hold and if it got perforated or ripped you can get a screeching sound.

Thanks, I'm a musician and I know what you are saying. I don't know how the phone might have been damaged but apparently it is.

It's SO easy for something sharp to poke that screen and cause problems. Happened to me on my Bold 9000 and it made the speakerphone unusable.

It's just weird that it only happens occasionally. It only lasts a few seconds too. Looks like I am stuck with it.

Not that you did say you have a hearing aid but I have a friend who does and he gets the same sound unless he turns down his volume on the aid. Other than that I agree with Rambo47, the screen must be damaged. Rim does not list any feedback problems.
