WiFi not used? I've enabled WiFi on 9700 and connected to my home router. Yet the browser and other apps (e.g. map) do not seem to use it. It remains on the slow 3G. Any setting to tweak? thanks! |
You need to remember that the BB isn't going to be that much faster on WiFi than it is on 3G. The processor and memory just isn't there yet. Perhaps you are connected. Does the WiFi symbol show up next to 3G? |
It shows below 3G. In browser, most of time I see the 5 bars. Occasionally, I can spot that becomes the WiFi. If I disabled radio, browser won't get any where. How can I tell if WiFi is actually used? |
In browser, press U to toggle the top bar. If it say wi-fi in the top bar, its using wi-fi; if it says 3G its using 3G. |
Most of time it shows 3G. How can I make it prefer WiFi? thanks! |
Automatic Wi-FiŽ Selection Mode is the default mode for BlackBerry smartphones. Automatic Wi-Fi Selection Mode allows the BlackBerry smartphone to switch automatically to an appropriate Wi-Fi network when the BlackBerry smartphone user moves through Wi-Fi coverage areas. The BlackBerry smartphone selects Wi-Fi networks based on the order on the Saved Wi-Fi Profiles list. Manual Wi-Fi Selection Mode allows the BlackBerry smartphone user to select the Wi-Fi networks to which the BlackBerry smartphone will attempt to connect. To switch between automatic and manual Wi-FiŽ Selection Mode, complete the following steps: In Options, click Wi-Fi Connections. Highlight the Wi-Fi Selection Mode field. Press the Menu key. From the Wi-Fi Connections menu, click Change Option. Click a Wi-Fi Selection Mode. Press the Menu key. From the Wi-Fi Connections menu, click Save to change the Wi-Fi Selection Mode. |
Does it always choose WiFi over radio? I have only 1 WiFi in the setup. |
It should unless your WIFI is weak or some other interference is causing the Wifi to not work. |
Choose Manage Connections, choose Mobile Network Options, then under Connection Preference set it to WiFi Prefered. Then when you are in range of your router you will auto connect and use Wifi. You'll go back to 3g when your out of range. |
johnling, this option is only available on UMA enabled models. The OP is on at&t, therefore does not have the connection preference option. |
