If you are using OS version 4.6 or later, try booting in safe mode. That should allow you at least to run a backup. You may also be able to remove the app that is causing the problem -- or remove what you suspect is the problem -- and try again.

The latest OS version is available from a link in a sticky thread at the top of the 9600 forum. No need to worry about what carrier released the version of the OS you install. As long as you remember the step to delete the vendor.XML file it's all good.
Warning: this will delete all info on your device. You will need to restore your data from a backup after reloading the OS.
Follow aiharkness' advice on wiping with JL_Commader first is important. Likewise, his suggestion about safe mode for a backup might just save the day.
