icon issue

i have just updated my curve 8520 but now i have a permanent message icon on the home screen, however when i recieve a new SMS it comes up with a different icon, that looks the same. can someone tell me please how to get rid of this mystery icon?

In your messages folder hit the menu key and go to options, you should have something in called Inbox settings and choose to have your MMS/SMS show up in there.

i cannot find that. however the email icon is the one showing. i have no new emails as i have an empty email inbox.
