Your BB came with a browser, right?

I assume they all come with at least one, my 8700c has 2 (Cingular and Internet) and if you are on a BES you also get the Blackberry browser.

If you got your BB second hand, maybe you need to reinstall the current OS from your provider as the prior owner may have deleted it.

It shouldn't have gone away, did you do it via the USB cable and sync from the PC? If so, go back into the application loader, and scroll down and make sure everything is checked and resync.

As for the text-message question, the real answer is NO, but that can vary by provider and user.

Phone Text-Messaging and IM are not the same thing and are billed differently. If you use "phone Text-Messaging" most companies charege about 10 cents a message. A BB has the ability to run 3rd party apps that use "data" and as such, like data from email and browser should be billed under your BB data plan. If you have an unlimited plan, then regardless of how much IM you do, there is no charge. If you have a limited plan, then YMMV.

I normally use about 2-7M a month, but I have heard of some people using that much a day.

Until you have Nextel activate a data plan for your BB you won't get a browser icon...

The browser you most likely had on their was from the previous user, and it probably wouldn't have worked. Unless you have a Blackberry specific data plan, the most you can hope for is NOL, which is wap only and not all that great. If you do have a blackberry dataplan, make sure that under Options > Applications, Browser is listed, then do a register now by going into Options > Host Routing Table, click trackwheel, Register Now.

You only have the NOL Browser. Do you pay extra for a blackberry only data plan? If not, thats all you can possibly get, and it may not work/Nextel won't troubleshoot it.
