DM Sync issue Calander & Contacts = No Available Message Stores
 
Error I have been trying to solve as a 1st time BB user (9700)
Windows 7, Outlook 2007, USB cable, DM 5.0.1.37 & BIS is how to sync my Outlook Contacts, Calander & Tasks.
I get error message "No Available Message Stores"

I have looked and cannot rename MAPI file before running fixmapi.exe
Unistalled and reinstalled Outlook 2007 & DM.

After organizer data settings are configured for synchronization with Microsoft Outlook, the following error message appears:

No available message stores

Summary of Causes

This issue might be caused by one of the following:

There is an issue with the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) subsystem, MAPI profile, or .pst file.
Synchronization with Microsoft Office Outlook Connector and Outlook Mobile Service is not supported.
The BlackBerry Desktop Manager is installed on an unsupported operating system such as Windows Server® 2003.
The BlackBerry Desktop Manager is trying to connect to an unsupported version of Microsoft Outlook such as Microsoft Outlook 2010 beta.

Complete the appropriate resolution for the cause.

Cause 1
There is an issue with the MAPI subsystem, MAPI profile, or PST file.

Resolution 1

Create a new MAPI profile pointing to a new .pst file and configure the synchronization settings to use this new profile.

Cause 2
Synchronization with Microsoft Office Outlook Connector and Outlook Mobile Service is not supported.

Resolution 2

Microsoft Outlook 2003 and 2007 include an add-in feature called Microsoft Office Outlook Connector. This feature allows you to configure MSN® Passport to connect to web-based email accounts, such as Windows Livexxx8482; Hotmail®. Microsoft Outlook 2007 includes an add-in feature called Outlook Mobile Service that allows you to configure an email address to send Short Message Service (SMS) messages and Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) messages to a mobile device.

Cause 3
The BlackBerry Desktop Manager is installed on an unsupported operating system such as Windows Server 2003.

Resolution 3

The BlackBerry Desktop Manager is only supported on Windows 2000, Windows® XP, Windows Vistaxxx8482;, and Windows 7. The MAPI subsystems within operating systems such as Windows Server does not allow the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to connect to the message store correctly.

Cause 4
The BlackBerry Desktop Manager is trying to connect to an unsupported version of Microsoft Outlook such as Microsoft Outlook 2010 beta.

Resolution 4

Beta software such as Microsoft Outlook 2010 beta has not been tested or designed to work with the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Since Microsoft Office Outlook Connector and Outlook Mobile Service do not store information in a .pst file or mailbox, the Synchronize option in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager is not able to make a connection to a message store for synchronization.

Thanks for responding.

1. There is an issue with the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) subsystem, MAPI profile, or .pst file.

I had found this and also done the MAPI fix without success. So I have narrowed matters down to
1. Not the issue.
3. Not the issue.
4. Not the issue on MS Outlook 2007.

Leaves No 2. What does RIM want the user to actually do here? What they write is a statement.

I have the Outlook Connector. Why would I switch on the SMS alert when I want to sync Contacts and Calendar?

Solved but not happy with it.

Save and protect pst file somewhere.
Uninstall Outlook.
Reinstall but do not set up an email account.
Sync will now work (did for me).
Now add email account in Outlook.
Outlook has 2 sets of folders for everything now.
Copy your email account contacts to the Outlook profile without email syncing to your BB.
Do same with Calander.

Now user has to enter the calander entry on 2 calanders!!
Now user should delete contacts in Outlook profile syncing to BB and copy paste in those from profile with email address.
Long way round.

My next step is to move email off Windows Live to another Service Provider to remove this extra work. Or next phone will not be a BB but a Windows phone.....
