Complicated but simple question for a Storm2

Unit was unlocked, then registered in US on Verizon and used for few days with unlimted data etc.

Now in Australia with a Vodophone SIM card that allows phone usage but no data plan.

Can I still use the BBM and email in Australia without the data plan?
What would be the settings on the Blackberry?

Thanks!!!!

no, you need a data plan to use BBM and email

No you cannot. You will need a BlackBerry data plan with Vodafone, which requires a contract.

Was under the impression that the BBM does not work off a data plan

No, the opposite is true. You MUST have a BlackBerry data plan for BBM. A regular data plan will not work.

BBM uses the RIM servers and without a BB dataplan you have no connectivity

You still wont get BBM or email.
Your blackberry data plan is connected to your other SIM card, which means your phone is connected to that data plan. As your not using that SIM card, you have no data, wi-fi won't make a difference.

When I was still in the USA and turned off the phone, but kept the wi-fi active, I could use BBM. Why would it still not be active? If I were to use the original SIM and again turn on WI-FI but not he phone, would be active?

yes, that would then work.
But as your using a different sim card to the one the data plan and phone are connected to by PIN, it won't work.
