WiFi gives you a data connection that does not count against your data allotment for the month. Many data plans give you a limited amount of data each month before you start to incur overage charges. Even "unlimited" data plans often now have a "fair use" cap of 5 MB or so. And WiFi is often faster then the cellular connection, even with 3G.

Do you have your Hotmail set up on your BlackBerry already? I believe you need to have it already set up through a BlackBerry data plan to get it on Facebook.

I'm with Koodo (Canada) and don't have a date plan I just get Facebook, Twitter and all those social networking sites free.. If I'm on WiFi does that mean I can go on whichever site I choose free of charge?

I'm not sure how the Canadian carriers work it, but in the US you need to have a BB data plan even if you use WiFi.

Without a BlackBerry data plan you won't get any email or social networking notifications via email.
