Default 7130e vs. Treo 700w advice

Please Login to Remove!

sick and tired of my sidekick ii...
So I thought I was sold on the 7130e - .... till I hit the VZW store tongiht. - 700w has hit the street apparently - and thus cluded my decision making.
CAN SOMEONE HELP a man make a decision.....
Here's my criteria -
1.i am a mac user....
2. i am in the music biz, on the road, in the studio, etc - need constant
access to all of of my pop3 email accounts, that I can pull from or
"get mail" at the push of a button (not wait until the device decides to
look for it.)
3. need fast (faster than the t-slow-bile)reliabel internet access
4. Dont really care much about my rings, mp3's (thats what ipods are 4)
5. strong date book, calendar, to do list capabilties
6. preferably something that can isync to my Mac to update contacts, dates,
etc.\

What I saw ....
1. Treo looked nice...really nice
2. 7130e... keyboard really scared me.. .(coming form the sidekick)
3. 7130e was about $250.00 cheaper.
4. 700w - had a cool stylus.. and touch screen
5. blackbery looked way cooler
7. Don't like the name... treo.... -

need to buy one tomorrow - what should it be.
Any solid advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
I've been reading so many quirky 7130e issues and bugs - that I am getting a little scared... havent rad much on the 700w - but of course it just came out today....

thanks for your help

kj

i'VE GOT YOUR PROBLEM. Fed up with Palm. My T3 failed catastrophically, and took my backup SD card with it. Was hoping that BB would be my solution with the 8700, but now I am scared, too. 12 yrs ago i had a Psion 3c that worked like a charm, and could print directly to a HP printer with a parallel cable. And, it dialed my phone for me. Does anyone use Symbian today?

kj, not sure if mine is the best opinion but I'll give it a shot. I've owned a slew of Pocket PC phones, the Palm Treo and now a BB 8700. By far, the BB 8700 is the best device I've owned. So, I think that should speak pretty well for the 7130e. The Treo 650 was probably the second best. Well built and solid with lots of extra software. It had little touches that I really liked. I also really liked the form factor and one handed operation. That said, I think the 700 has a long way to go before it gets to 650 like-ability. WM5 is a new OS and even though it's WAY better than the previous Pocket PC OS, it's still not great one-handed operation.. Most programs are designed for portrait displays...not the square display the 700 uses. But, in all defense, programmers are adapting...slowly though.

Well, I ranting now... hopefully this helped a little. The 700 is going to give you the most comfortable use of contacts, calendar and tasks. The BB is just as good... just plain text. The only think I don't like about the BB is the Tasks. But, PocketDay (3rd party) more than makes up for what I don't like. Good luck!

I believe Nokia's and Sony Ericsson's use the Symbian OS these days.

Dont ever trust a new Palm device...give them some time to work bugs out

I would actually recommend giving them sometime to work the rest of the bugs out of the 7130 as well. if I were you id get one of the 72XX or 77XX's from verizon and wait for the bugs to be worked out of the 7130 and the treo and then make a better decision. the only problem I see for you is the synching to a MAC which can be done with a Blackberry but is not easy and requires purchasing a seperate program.

Maybe yo should look into the Treo 650 if you need to sync with a MAC

Someone mentioned in another forum that the 700w has less screen resolution than the 650. Can anyone verify this? Apparently the WM5 OS can't handle the same resolution as the Palm OS....?

orcasound: Based on your requirements, I'd say go with Blackberry. Apparently the suretype keyboard isn't as bad as it seems. Of course you could wait a while for the 8700 (CDMA version).

I'm pretty sure that's true.
