Default mds simulator

Please Login to Remove!

I have downloaded 4 different versions of the blackberry simulator and none will connect to the web. I remember from the last time that I tried this that I needed the mds simulator. It did not come with any of the downloads that I have tried in the past two days.

Files downloaded

BlackBerry_Simulators_4[1].1.0.214.exe (only one that came as installing exe)
4[1].0.0.215.simpackage.fledge.zip
3[1].7.0.76.simpackage_d.zip
3[1].6.0.94.simpackage.zip

All of these will start and bring up any device of choice - all will start a blank command prompt window. None will connect to the internet.

I do have Java installed (Version 1.4.2_05 (build 1.4.2_05-b04)) and my path statement does include the bin directory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as blackberry.com is pretty much useless at this point ( I tried to search for an MDS simulator and got directed to and MDS update for our server which is not what I need)

Thanks in advance

It has been a while since I played with the latest simulator but I thought that if you set up an account on your BES for the simulator and enable mds for that user and then have desktop manager running when you connect with the simulator, you will have mds and connect to the internet.

Default need it to work stand alone

Those who will be setting up the screen shots may not be able to connect to our network all of the time and they need to be able to bring up the simulator and run a quick test and grab screen shots from anywhere.

That may work for in office but at least one of the people working on this project travels quite regularly and will need to be able to run the simulator anytime they have an internet connection.

You need to install the BlackBerry JDE. This has the ability for the simulators to connect to the web through your existing MDS. Just launch the MDS Simulator before starting the device simulator.

- OR -

You can install the just BlackBerry Email and MDS services simulator. Connect the BlackBerry simulators just like with the full JDE.

- OR -

You can take screenshots directly from your BlackBerry. It is not possible from all models, but does work for the 7100 and 8700 series. You have to use JavaLoader.exe (actually part of the BlackBerry JDE) to get the screenshots. You can download JavaLoader along with a batch file I wrote, JL_Cmder. JL_Cmder is pretty simple to use, and a heck of a lot smaller than the whole BlackBerry JDE.

Hi All,

New member here - but I have searched and found this string :P I was hoping if someone could shed some light on this for me:

So will this setup above allow me to simulate 30+ users at the same time to see if I could support that many users?

-Test send/receive

Even if I have to run this setup on 30 different machines to simulate 30 users?

No. The simulators are not for stress testing your server. They are designed for developers to test their apps on. I personally use them when troubleshooting end-user issues on the phone. This way I see almost exactly what they see.

Need a screenshot? ... Like JavaLoader?
Try using BBscreen .....Use JL_Cmder!
or BBScreenShooter!

Thanks for the info and the prompt reply!

I finally got it to work and it does the job. The limitation is 1 simulator per pc, so I am going to be able to test my application with this tool, but I'll have to run 1/machine. Yes, I am going to have to set this up so we can test 30+ clients. It wasn't as much for stress as number of users, so this will have to do vs. buying 30+ devices to do the same. Thank gawd for VMWare!

Thanks for the info. and links above!

We could only make one simulator work at a time. It looks like the pin is hard coded to the simulator.

Anyone know a way around this?

FYI: There is a way around this by making a file change.
