Default Is the Blackberry 9650 CMDA/GSM what I am looking for?

Please Login to Remove!

I live in a country where there is only one telecom provider and they use both GSM (voice and data) and CDMA (data only) service.

Given both services are spotty, I am thinking the 9650 is my answer so I can maximize my 'coverage' and need advice if I am making the right decision. Voice works everywhere but when it comes to data service, in urban areas, GPRS/EDGE is good and outside the city, CDMA is almost the only option.

Will this phone handle a 3G SIM Card where it will be my default voice service as well as GPRS for data. However, it will also be configured with the same provider for CDMA/EVDO data service so when I go to areas where there is no GSM data service, I will be able to connect using CDMA?

Is this possible?

Thank you,

Shiferaw

What country and provider is this? What you are saying about the network doesn't make sense.

Does your carrier support the 9650? If not, you will have trouble getting it to work.

You probably need to talk to the carrier to see if you can use both GSM and CDMA. I don't know anything at all about your cell carrier. But from what I know you can only have one service configured at a time, either GSM or CDMA and cannot switch back and forth.

Ok, I researched the company, and the 9650 is not the device for you. Most operators that have both CDMA and GSM networks can only provision your account for one or the other, not both, so the device will not work as intended.

Further, ETC does not support BlackBerry, so you won't get proper Internet on the GSM/GPRS, WCDMA, or EVDO networks that they operate.

Sorry for the bad news.

I think it is possible, the GSM number will be different from the CDMA number even from 1 provider

It still won't work. The CDMA and GSM radios can't/don't/won't work at the same time.
