Default Unlock Blackberry 8310

Hi everyone!

I've been looking around for a place to get an unlock code. However, I'm unsure how to proceed and this is the first time I'm venturing to do this so I'm a bit apprehensive. I was told that I'll need an 'unlock code' which I could get from the carrier or from a 3rd party company, but since the phone I want to unlock is an old phone from a friend (they don't have the same carrier anymore) I don't think they could give me a code. I broke my phone and I'm planning to switch carrier so I don't want to do an upgrade to replace my phone. My friend was nice enough to give me a spare phone she has, but she had AT&T and I'm currently with T-Mobile. Like everyone else though, I'm practically attached to my Blackberry so I need a working replacement phone as soon as possible. That being said, can someone please give me an idea on how long I would have to wait before I can receive an unlock code if I order it from a 3rd party company? Not sure if it's relevant, but I'm currently based in NY, USA.

Default Unlock Set Up

I have unlock 8310 and current application is 4.5, and when I inserted a non-US SIM it won't boot up, red light blinking, screen on-off and hour glass ico is not turning. Any assistance is appreciated .
