Default Blackberry Encrypted Email Problem

Please Login to Remove!

I'm new here so I'm not sure this is the best place for this topic. Please let me know if there's a better forum.

I have a Curve2 that I have several email accounts linked to. A problem has recently shown itself and I'm not sure that it is a Blackberry problem, but I figured I'd start here:

My primary email account is with gmail. I have an email conversation with someone with an Optonline email account that goes back and forth replying to the same message many times. At some point, the user on the Optonline end will get a message from me that has not been decrypted.

I have looked at my sent messages in my gmail account and found the message I sent decrypted and reading normally, but the recipient sees nothing but strange characters. This leads me to believe it's an issue with Optonline or possibly gmail, not BB. However, when I use the gmail app on my BB it does not occur. It's only when I compose using the BB email app that it happens.

Has anyone ever had an issue like this? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a certificate capable of encryption installed on your device? Does the other person? Have you trusted the other person's cert? Have they trusted yours?

I have not taken any additional security steps beyond what BB itself provides. The other recipient is receiving emails via MS Outlook on a PC.

You still need to trust the other person's certificate to decrypt encrypted e-mails. If you can't do that, tell them to not send you encrypted messages.

My wife has run into this issue with her phone a few times in the last 6 months. Essentially the recipient has phoned her and said that the email she just sent them was just a bunch of leters and numbers all jumbled up. She removed her battery and all was fine again. Sorry no further info on cause...

brew, you are not saying you or the other party are using encryption, right? You are just using the word encrypted because the email received by the other party is nothing but odd characters . . . Is that really what you are saying?

I ask because I ran into that a relatively long time ago when posting to a listserv from my blackberry. That was OS 4.2, though, I think, and it eventually straightened itself out.

And you mention you are both receiving and replying to each other fine, and then all the sudden the weirdness.

If that's what is going on, I don't see that there is anything you can do. I suspect it's a glitch on the other party's receiving end, and not you exactly. . . . If what I've described is what you are really experiencing. And if that's the case, you might try upgrading your OS if there is a newer version available. If my memory serves, my problem mysteriously went away when I moved from 4.2 to 4.5.
