| App World without BIS/BES Please Login to Remove! Hello,
i am just curious if it is forbidden to use the App Store with a BlackBerry without the BIS or BES.
I got the App World alx from someone else, installed the Servicebooks from anworm and can now use the BlackBerry App World, which is nice.
But is it legal?
Thank you,

| Re: App World without BIS/BES You generally need to wait a lot longer than you have to be sure no one is going to answer your question.
But as to legality, didn't you read the license agreement when you installed it?
Seriously, I didn't read it thoroughly either, but I would bet you are violating it.
Real world consequences? I expect it will turn out to be more trouble than it's worth without a data plan. What use are data apps without a data plan?

My provider gives me 100 MB a month for 5 Bucks, but he hasn't BIS or BES.

| Re: App World without BIS/BES Yeah, and I did mean blackberry data plan.
There are apps other than those by RIM which require a blackberry data plan to run. Google maps comes to mind.
At any rate, if you've somehow managed to get service books installed and make app world work, I still say I expect it will be more trouble than it's worth messing with it. Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile | | Offline

I have the servicebook from anworm and i have no trouble at all with it and with the AppWorld.
I just want to know, if i can give others the alx for AppWorld officially without the fear doing it illegally.

| Re: App World without BIS/BES I don't know the answer to your question and I don't think you should rely on any answer your would get on a forum, in the office, at a party, in the doctor's office, from your hairdresser... It's a question for an attorney. But if I had to guess, I'd bet it's illegal. I wouldn't do it just because I wouldn't use a product that is not being given away free by the owner without paying for it.
As to trouble, you probably will lose the service books everytime you do a hard reset, and you may lose them at anytime for whatever reason. Plus, as I said, I wonder if you'll be able to find any apps that will run that are worth a damn.
But another question. Have you actually successfully downloaded an installed an app yet, or just opened app world and browsed? Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile | | Offline

And the updates of those are automatic.
I even updated AppWorld itself, some months ago.
And i repeat, i have no BIS or BES.
Because it is working so well i would like to give other people the AppWorld.alx (and cod) to have the same nice thing.
But know i think it is better to keep it, i don't want to do any illegal things
EDIT: the things not working are: Maps and BB Messenger. I live very good without them.

| Re: App World without BIS/BES No need to repeat. It's clear what you wrote.
I was curious because before app world you needed the blackberry browser to download and install OTA, which in turn required a data plan (or at least the service books). So just asked as it's a clue into how things work. Are you able to use the native BlackBerry browser as well, I wonder? (Some RIM apps require other apps, for example Traffic requires BlackBerry Maps, and I understand social feeds requires facebook, twitter, etc. and doesn't display those independently.)
At any rate, good luck, and stay out of jail. Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile | | Offline

Who would buy a Smartphone without a working browser?
But Messengers are not working (e.g. facebook).
@dubdub: what is MFI?

| Re: App World without BIS/BES Appworld can be downloaded from Blackberry and used without BES or BIS. All you have to do is attach your BB to your PC USB port and install from blackberry.com. As far as installing applications from Appworld, many work with a regular internet data as long as you have the native browser working. You will also get alerts when there is an update for any apps installed from APPworld. | | Offline

Other than that a BB is not much use without one, it is unlikely any apps will work, and the email will not either. Even the WiFi browser may not work depending on the phone's native carrier without data. Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile | | Offline

| Re: App World without BIS/BES A BlackBerry without data plan is like a normal computer without internet. You can still use some Apps offline (e.g. MGMaps, Mobipocket Reader and a few more) but it is _much_ more fun with internet!

| Re: App World without BIS/BES It's possible to get 95% of the BB services working without a BIS/BES data plan, as I have done. Only a few apps don't work (RIM designed apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Gtalk) and there are alternatives to each of these.
Everything else (apart obviously from push email, which can be replaced with the Gmail app in my case) works just fine with my Giff Gaff account. | | Offline
