Default 30% problem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi! I have a Blackberry 9700 and I have a biig big problem: when my phone battery reaches 30%, dies suddenly. So, my phone dies only when the battery indicator shows 30%.
I've to tell you that i've changed the battery that came with the phone. I use the new battery by one week, but, surprise, the problem persists! Shut down when the battery is arrive at 30%.

So, help me please: it's about a software/hardware issue? could be solved in any way?
Maybe the new OS 6 will change something?

I'm waiting for your support!

Thanks!

Is this http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html a newer OS than you are currently running? If so, it might help. No guarantees, but perhaps worth a try.

I've has seen posts on your symptom: Device shuts down when battery indicator shows battery at some -- but not too low -- percentage.

I would have suggested try another battery, but you've done that. Interesting that same thing happens. I don't know answer. If the device is under warranty, I would contact the seller's customer service about a replacement.

And I'm curious: When you tried the other battery, did the device work normally for a little while, and then start with the problem again? Or did you have the problem right off with the other battery?

Hello guys!

Sorry for the delay in writing this message.

First of all, thanks djm2 for the new OS version. I have an older one.. 5.0.0.656. I didn't install it until today, but i'll update the OS as soon as possible and i'll write u how it works.
On the other hand, this phone was a gift and for this reason i don't have any official invoice and warranty. Also, for aiharkness, i don't have any period of normality in function of battery. I changed the old battery with the new one and from the first moment of using it , the phone shuted down at 30%. So, i'm sure that the problem isn't the battery, but the phone (i hope software).

I'm afraid it may be a hardware problem and i'm still waiting for your opinions, regarding this issue..

Thanks once again for your support!

Have a nice week!

Mircea

I've already changed the old battery. The problem still persists. I don't think that it's a battery issue... I also installed OS version 5.0.0.680.. We'll see what it will happen.

Ok. Good. You have upgraded the software. I was curious to see if a software reinstall will solve the problem.

Post an update when you get the chance.

Is a difference between updating and reinstalling OS ? I've only updated the OS, in fact first I updated my old OS(5.0.0.656) to 5.0.0.860, then I downgraded it to version 5.0.0.680. If there is a difference between those procedures(reinstall\up-downgrade), can u tell me how to reinstall OS. Thanks!

Procedure wise, of course, you must wipe the device (see JL_CMDER, blackberryfaq.com) to then reinstall the same OS version that was on the device to begin with. You do not need to wipe before upgrading the OS.

As far as your problem, I don't see that it makes a difference. My thought was the possibility that you are seeing what you are seeing because some glitch in the device software that is not corrected with a hard reset. If that were indeed the case, then I think a reinstall versus upgrade would make no difference.

Do you still have the problem?

Hi! After I updated the OS to 5.0.0.680 it seems that my problem disappeared.. it seems, because i'd like to wait couple of days to see what will happen. Today my battery arrived at 19%..18% , so , for the first time I saw the orange colour on indicator.. it's a special feeling
I hope the situation will remain so, without another strange shut-downs..

I'll keep you informed..
Thanks again for your all support!

Hello!
Unfortunately i've to tell you that my problem still exists! I don't know what to do to solve this issue.. It seems that i should charge the battery before reaching 30%.. It's the only solution for me.. If you have another, i'm waiting for it..
Thanks!

I don't have any other ideas.

I'm curious if the battery indicator is wrong and the remaining battery life is really down to 0 when the indicator shows 30%, or if the remaining battery life is really 30% and when the device shuts down. Any clues as to which it is?

Hi! It's about the first situation: when the indicator shows 30%, in fact the battery is at 5% or less. In fact, I noticed that when the indicator is 29%, the phone dies. I've installed Battery Watch and this application shows me, in detail, the battery level. But if i go to Options - Status, when the phone shuts down, the battery level is, of course at 30%.

But if I remove the battery, before reaching 29% (for ex. at 34%) and put it back, after that, the indicator shows the correct level - 19, 18% and downs, normally, until it reaches 0%. So, at 29-30% of the battery, appears a communication problem between the battery and the phone.
I don't know how it's possible and why at this level?

I observed another thing.. When i charge the battery, the procces is constant up to 72-73% and takes about an hour and a half.. Then, it reaches 100% very fast, in few minutes. I think it's a problem with charging of that part of the battery.. Very strange situation..considering that the same thing happened with two different batteries.

Any case..i look forward to your views.. thanks!
