Default BB w/o Data Plan?

Please Login to Remove!

I do not plan to activate any data plans. I just want to install few applications like facebook, nimbuzz etc and use it when wifi connection is available. Please let me know if its possible to install such 3rd party apps and use them over wifi, without any data plans. Thanks in advance.

In order to use many third party apps, including FaceBook, you need a BlackBerry Data Plan.

Some third party apps (Berry Weather, Pandora radio) have configuration settings to work only on WiFi. Some do not.

BlackBerry applications like Facebook for BlackBerry, Twitter for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Maps, etc., will NOT work with out a valid BlackBerry Data Plan. Period, even on WiFi, they require contact to the BIS server.

So, it's hit and miss which third party apps will work on WiFi.

Honestly, without a data plan there are better choices than BlackBerry out there. Something Android might suite your needs. Also have a look at some of the Nokia phones out there. I used a Nokia E71 some time back with T-Mobile's tzones plan ($5.99/month) and had full access to the internet.

BlackBerrys have always been about superb email handling, security, and corporate connectivity. If none of that is your thing, then why choose a BlackBerry? Unfortunately, lots of folks these days look at BBs as the new "bling" accessory. But then even Lindsey Lohan has a BlackBerry data plan.

I wonder if they let her use it in the crossbar hotel? I somewhat doubt it.
