Default Locked out of my blackberry!

Please Login to Remove!

I just bought the blackberry bold 9650 yesterday afternoon and have been using it nonstop ever since.

Well, one of the first things I did was set up a password for it. I've used the password at least 50 times since setting it and haven't had any problems. Now all of a sudden I'm prompted to "Enter Password" like the past ~50 times only when I enter my normal password, it won't work.

I'm now on my 9/10th try and I can not figure out what the password is supposed to be. Is there some universal password that it might've reset to?

No one has had my phone except me so I know the password couldn't have changed. Is there some way to send the password it wants to the e-mail registered to the phone? Please help!

10 bad guesses out of 10 and t wipes. Do you have a back up?

No way to retrieve the password either.

And, oh yeah ... maybe try to find the rightful owner?

It's nice to see that the moderators of this forum instantly jump to conclusions.

I don't know if I have a backup. I installed the 2 discs it came with but I haven't really gotten around to actually using them, they've only been installed to my desktop.

So there's absolutely no way for me to figure out my password other than to fail 2 more times and have it reset itself? That's absurd. Wish they told me this at the store when they said they were buy one get one free... knew I should've just gotten the droid 2

Edit: So I've went ahead and tried the same password one more time and it didn't work again... I literally used this password 30 minutes ago and have used it a bunch of times. I simply don't understand this...

If it resets itself, will all of my current unopened text messages/bbms still be there when it's done resetting?

All it will do is require you to reload all your contacts etc. Did you use a caps key by mistake?

No. After the fifth failed attempt it actually shows what you're typing in to make sure you see it right.

I'll send you a picture of the receipt from yesterday if it'll allow you tell me something you guys don't want thefts to know about sending passwords.

So this will only wipe contacts and that stuff? As in preferences for vibrate levels on all the different profiles, email will be wiped from the phone I assume... but I don't lose unopened texts messages of any sort (bbm etc. included)?

Edit: Yes, my contacts are backup'd via verizon's website, I know I had that with my old phone. I just don't want to lose unopened messages.

You lose all data on the BB except the factory original setup.

Your assuming people responding here dont have a clue about security. In the event your a kid with mommy's blackberry, we will still try to help.

How in the world did you get this assumption from anything I've typed? I came here under the impression that you guys would be able to assist me in this matter because you know about blackberry security.

I find it offensive that the first response I get is from an actual moderator of the site and he's instantly accusing me of thievery. Now I've got another 5 year member who's assuming the worst as well.

I'm sorry I won't take accusations of "stealing mommy's blackberry" lightly from someone who doesn't even know the difference between your and you're.

I'm most likely going to go to verizon tomorrow afternoon and get a refund on this and just get the droid 2. I don't want to be a part of a community where some of the eldest and most respected members treat new members like dirt.

So I failed for the 10th time and it reset. I'm currently uploading my contacts again but all of my call/text/bbm/etc were wiped, meaning I still don't know who left me messages before it was wiped (there were 2 unopened messages).

Does anyone with verizon service know if there's any way of retrieving those messages? I tried the website but it doesn't show messages, you can only send them...

BBs are much more secure than other consumer type devices. That is why businesses and Governments use them over any other device. The password protection you experience now is part of that security.

We see it all the time, more times than you would think. Someone finds a BB. It is password protected. They know nothing about BBs and make up some story about how they set a password or their little brother set a password or whatever and now they can't remember it.

They make their first couple of posts, asking how to get around it, just as you have done.

We do not help people in illegal activities. Offensive or not, that is how it is. Going by your post, and previous experience, that is the conclusion we get.

If you get offended by our trying to protect the rightful owner, then maybe you need to grow up a bit. How would you feel if you lost your device, someone else found it and we helped them get it running again rather than trying to return it.

If you don't believe us, use the SEARCH feature and see for yourself.

And by the way, I did answer your question in the beginning just in case you were legit. Maybe thanks and/or an apology is in order?

If the unopened messages were sent to another email address like gmail, you can get them there. If you used the carrier email address, yourname.vzw.blackberry.net, the emails are gone for good. We don't recommend people use that carrier email address partially for that reason.

Please forgive us for our cynicism - those who have been around this forum for a long time have seen many dishonest users unfortunately.

BBMs, SMS or Email?

If email, you might be able to resend it to yourself, as daphne mentioned above. Otherwise once wiped they are gone. Makes no difference what carrier you have.

At least you have the contacts, etc. I suggest you make a backup using DM once you get things loaded.

Just as a comment and question; I've seen situations where users are absolutely sure they are entering the correct password (it happened to me once so I can vouch for the scenario I describe) and the BB doesn't seem to accept it. I've found in most cases if they do a battery reset on the device, after reboot, they use the same keystrokes and it works. I'm not sure if this is caused by the processor interpreting keystrokes improperly,...maybe a key like <alt> or something being stuck down, or what...but when users call with this in most cases the battery reset seems to fix it. I guess it could also be that the few minutes it takes the device to reset allows the user to calm down and think clearly and type in the right keystrokes...(one additional factoid we use encryption in our environment)

I'm grateful for the level of security features BB offer. I started using a password after reading several posts people wrote on here. It really is good advice. When I lost mine I was glad I did password protect it. Thankgoodness I found it hours later I was relieved. Good advice mods I'm glad I listened.
