Red face 8700g no 'Compose SMS' option

Please Login to Remove!

Hey y'all I just bought a 2nd hand Blackberry 8700g and it's great, apart from one little thing. When I go into messages and press the scroll button it does not give me the option 'Compose SMS', it gives me 'Compose Email', Place Call', and 'Compose MMS' but nothing to do with SMS. I have updated the phone today and is currently on the Telstra network. I've also tried going through the settings for both SMS and MMS. Please Help.

BB feature enabler is something on the US T-mobile network that allows you to get the service books for MMS without adding a full BB data plan to your account.
This doesn't apply on the Telstra carrier, and no it wouldn't fix your problem.

Thanks for the info and steering me on the right track.

Also I went on the blackberry site and they tell me that I have to "Set the Allow SMS option in the appropriate IT policy to True". So far I know I need a 'BlackBerry Enterprise Server System Administrator' to change this setting.

I've found a couple of online walkthroughs to do this through Blackberry desktop but I need the 'policy.bin' file or something, which I can't find anywhere.

Can I take the phone to my service provider and see if they can do anything??

(remember I bought the phone 2nd from a friend who salvaged it from stuff they were recycling)

If you're not on a BES, it also doesn't apply.

So how do I get on a BES?

Also does anyone know where I can get a policy.bin file to follow the walkthrough called 'Remove IT Policy' found on Blackberryfaq.

You don't.
An Enterprise Server is a server attached to a mailbox server, typically used by companies, to receive work email.
An IT Policy also only applies to a device attached to (or once was) to a BES.

Does your device actually indicate it has an IT policy on it?

To use data features, yes you would, but it wouldn't [as far as i know, shouldn't] have any impact on you not being able to compose an SMS.

Can you receive an SMS? Can you reply to a received SMS?

Then it suggests the SMS settings are screwed up.
Does it throw any error when trying to reply?

It doesn't give me the option to reply. Everything else works fine, just the stupid SMS won't work.
