Default Emergency Call

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

When my Blackberry 7250 is locked, clicking or rolling the trackwheel allows for:

Unlock
Emergency Call
Cancel

If I select Emergency Call, after the confirmation dialog that follows, does it just dial 911? What if I am in a rural area where 911 is not present, and a real phone number is needed to contact the police?

Thanks,
Jeff

Are you saying that you know of areas with mobile phone coverage is available, but not mobile phone coverage with 911?

I am sure the FCC would love to hear about that.

You can not program the emergency call number. It dials from a table of known numbers (911, 112) depending on what country you are in.

jefwic,
Being a 9-1-1 Dispatcher, wherever you have phone service, you will be able to dial 911 and receive help. Or at the very least, you will get transfered to whatever agency you need.

And as NJBlackBerry Said, you cannot program the emergency number that it dials.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. I'm in Canada, and in lots of very small towns, 911 isn't available (to my knowledge - I could be wrong), and the different emergency personal must be contacted directly. This is from landlines anyway. I'm not sure, but the 911 call may go to the next nearest city where an operator is available.

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Regards,
Jeff Wickenheiser

Is it possible to disable this feature? I have called 911 more than once while it was in my pocket. I think they are about ready to start sending me a bill.
