Default Should I update my BB 5.0.0 Core Applications?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Just yesterday I installed the latest and greatest software on my Bold 9000 (5.0.0.822, Platform 5.2.0.76) to supposedly clear up some issues I thought I was having with my phone. After the update, I thought all of my applications were fully up to date and perfectly functional (BB Desktop didn't have any more updates to provide at the time). And then after installing a few apps, I am down to about 22MB of application storage.

Well now this morning, the Desktop Software wants me to install a new version of BB 5.0.0 Core Applications... this one is 36.3MB, and my previous one, which is also 5.0.0, is 21.5 MB. This is going to take up an additional 15MB of my 22MB of free space!!!! Leaving me with only 7MB of remaining storage space...

Does anyone have any insight as to if I should go through with this update and why? Is there any way to figure out the differences between the two Core Application files? I would have thought that the latest Core Application software would be in the file I installed last night but apparently not?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

- Matt

I wouldn't update again if your BB is performing well right now. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Conversely, if you're not happy with the way it's running, do the update. And don't worry about the size of the update. That's just the size of the file you'll download to your computer. It won't add anything to the size of the installed software.

Hi Rambo,

Thanks for the reply! You're right - my BB is working fine and I have no issues with it. I would just have thought that packed in the latest software release would be the latest core application files... apparently not.... because it only wants me to update the core application file.

However - in the Desktop Manager software, it does show a difference of 15MB between the two core application files (old vs. new), and if I installed the new one, the disk space left on my BB for applications would go from 22MB to 7MB. To me that seems pretty harsh, but I wish I could find out what is different between the two core files. Both are 5.0.0... so I don't know how to figure this out.

The installer file is larger, but the files that actually get installed on your BlackBerry will be the same as before.
