If your phone was stolen you need to call your service provider and have them suspend your phone. Then you won't have to worry about them using it because absolutely nothing on your phone will work. I used to work at Verizon and it's really simple to do. You can even do it online with most companies.

You need to be patient and wait more than 23 minutes for a response.

Some carriers will block the PIN which will turn off all BB services. Others block the device and the PIN rendering the device a paperweight, and still others do nothing. You need to call you carrier and ask.

You need to report it as soon as possible since you are liable for all charges up until it is reported.

If you have reported it to your cell carrier then you should not be liable for any access. As I said above, some carriers will block it entirely, others will not.

If it was password protected, then some one would not have access to you data either.

A blackberry mainly will be blocked from the CTN, to block the PIN or IMEI of the device that would need to be done at the RIM level. so if you reported it as lost or stolen it is just blocked at the carrier, you would need to contact them and go from there. if it was reported at the RIM level by the purchaser then it is blocked at the PIN level, RIM also reserves the right to block the IMEI as well.

from a back up or if you had the new BBm it gives an option to back up and restore from an email address attached to your BIS

if it was attached to a email address when you register it with your BIS account and your email then it will restore your BBm contacts
other then that you will have to build it manually

not into your BBm contacts but into your BIS you should. it is normally something like rogers.blackberry.com to login to your BIS account, but where it says rogers replace that with your Wireless provider name.
