Default Having trouble downloading apps

Hi all,

I have a blackberry storm 9530. It is not hooked up to Verizon, as the previous owner had it. I've been using it as a task manager/calendar. The problem is I am having a difficult time getting applications (such as nextaction, toodledo, etc.) to open on my blackberry desktop manager. there appears to be an error when I try to import the application to the desktop manager. thanks for any help you can provide

I'm not clear on what you are trying to do. Open an app on the blackberry in desktop manager? Import an app to desktop manager? Those procedures don't make any sense. No can do.

You probably need to give step by step on what you are doing and the exact error message.

I am also going to guess that this tired old question has to be asked: Do you have any sort of data plan with this device.? It sounds like no -- you've just been using it as it it were a palm Pilot or such -- is that right?

ok..I'll be more specific.

Step
1. went to taskjot's website on my pc
2. downloaded the file: taskjot saves as a JAD file
3. when I click on this file my blackberry desktop software (device is plugged in) opens but nothing happens.
4. when i click on applications, a number of applications open but taskjot is not on the list.
5. in the top right corner of the desktop manager I click import files and I try to bring the file to the applications list but a message pops up: "there was an error importing files..."

Desktop manager will not import jad files, only alx files.
Try moving the jad to your media card and opening it on the device.

yeah that's correct. i am just using it for palm pilot features. from a quick search tonight, it seems like i may not be able to download a jar file without a data plan. does that sound correct?

See the link I posted. Also read MidnightDraven's post again.

You can install apps, but you must download the desktop install files or create the desktop instal files.

If it is a standalone app that doesn't depend on data service to be of any use, then you are good. But the whole point of a smartphone is data and the things data apps can do for you. I think you are going to be very disappointed in the end.

Wondering why anyone would use a Blackberry as a PDA only.

thanks guys. I've been using it for the calendar and to do list. i am really reluctant to start paying a monthly fee for phone/data plan since I've managed to get by this long without a plan. i've been using a old phone with a tmobile pay as you go when i need it. probably $100 a year when i add it up. curious- what's the least expensive plan i could get for a blackberry?

I don't know what t-mobile charges new customers for data on a blackberry, but t-mobile has always had the cheapest blackberry data plan in the U.S. I'm paying 19.99, but it may be up to 29.99/mo. Look at their website.

But if the blackberry is doing for you what you need, more power to you.
