Default My email was left on a refurbished Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

So I have gone through 5 first generation storms, all of them died from not being able to take a charge any longer. They were returned to the store, and sent in to be refurbished. Recently I was contacted by a woman who had received one of my storms, saying it still had my email in it.
I contacted Verizon, who said they would walk her through a hard reboot of the phone, and that my personal information was not compromised. In follow up emails with Verizon they said that upon investigation, my email had been left on the phone, however that my personal information was secure (don't ask me how one equates to the other).
Has anyone else had this issue? It's extremely concerning to me that my information could have been traced back to me by a random user.
I have not received any information from Rim and Verizon saying how they plan on correcting the issue. However I'm considering getting a lawyer to pursue this is a class action lawsuit against both unless some satisfactory response is given.
Thanks much.

So you didn't wipe the BlackBerry before you returned it? Or this other person is simply getting PIN's from people who think that's still a good PIN?

I'm guessing your email passwords and so forth are safe, unless you put those in memo pad or something like that. But messages, calendar, etc that was left on the device is compromised.

They were returned to Verizon when they wouldn't take a charge any longer. They would not even turn on for me to be able to delete the information myself.
I have no idea what might have been left on them information-wise, or if anything might be recoverable.
Per Verizon, they return the unusable phone to RIM, who then performs a 100 point inspection before returning them to the market. They were then given to a customer at another Verizon store, who in turn contacted me using my email that was found on the phone.

Worst case, everyone from the tech who restored power to the BlackBerry to the new owner had access to whatever was on the BlackBerry when it failed on you. From what you describe that is what I would assume.
