Default A couple of Calendar questions

Is it possible to make appointments show as a solid block, rather than showing as an appointment with a line running down the timeline to show the actual time?

Secondly, is it possible to set per appointment audible alarms? It may be staring me in the face but I can only see the option to turn audible alarms on or off, not to have an important appointment remind me audibly whilst another one may just alert via the led.

Thanks.

Don't think I understand your first question.

I don't know a way to do what you want in your second question with the native blackberry calendar app. Seems like a good thing to have for some, so I'd bet there's a third-party app for it. Have you looked at the calendar apps in blackberry app world?

What view are you using for the calendar app?

As for alarm per appointment, not with the native BB OS. There may be a 3rd party app that can do it, like Berry Buzz (not sure on that one).

Thanks both. Just using the default view.

So, say I have an appointment from 12pm to 5pm, in the calendar I see a green "block" with the appointment details but the block only covers from 12pm-1pm, it's only the green line that runs vertically down the timeline that shows the appointment is from 12pm-5pm.

If you look in Outlook in the calendar view, a 5 hour appointment would show a 5 hour block of time in a different colour/as an item.

Sounds like you are looking at the day view. (You can change to agenda, week, or month on the fly, and set one or the other to be the default view when calendar is opened.) And what you are seeing is the way it is with the OS version you are using. There have been little variations over time, and you may see something a little different if you were to upgrade (if an upgrade is available), but not much.

If you need more funcationality on stuff like this you are going to have to find an aftermarket solution.

Thanks. I wouldn't say we "need" it, I'm just finding there's a lot to get to grips with when, as an admin, I'm trying to sort out BES Express as well as having enough knowledge of the handset OS whilst we have them on trial.

My opinion is you'll probably find much less customization options when it comes to appearances and style with BlackBerry, though I haven't used anything else for so long.....but that was my observation at the time I begain using a BlackBerry and seems to still hold up based on what I read from people on the forum.

I haven't found anything like this in App World. I too would like to see the entire duration of each appointment blocked out when in Day View. The idea of a single bar blocked off with a vertical line down the timeline looks like a lazy solution on the part of whoever coded the calendar app. Obviously it's not, but it seems like they said, "Ah, this is good enough. Just leave it like this." I'm sure RIM had reasons for making it like this, but I'll be darned if I can figure them out. Has this view changed in OS 6?

The other thing I've been PINING for is a new calendar view called Grid View. The week-at-a-glance view like paper date books. Palm had this on their Treo phones natively, and later when they dropped it users could download DateBk from Pimlicosoft to get it back.

This is a great view for folks with a level of scheduling that includes one or two appointments per day. It lets you quickly assess your week and gives you a visual feel for how things are shaping up.
