Default Data Transfer from Palm OS to Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I am new to this forum and am doing some research before deciding to upgrade my Verizon phone from a Treo 700. I have used the Palm OS for a very long time so my database is quite large and what moved me to the Treo was the ease of use of having a phone and the Palm Pilot together in one device. However it was not until after I'd acquired the Treo that I discovered that Palm OS does not do voice dialing from a Bluetooth device (at least not without a lot of messing around with 3rd party apps that may or may not work depending on whose BT you buy), and this is an issue I've had to deal with for a long time. Many friends have suggested Blackberry and the various models I've looked at (Storm2 and Bold vying for ultimate choice now) seem to have all the features I need in a phone/pda. The deal breaker for me will be whether I can transfer my Palm OS databases intact to the BB, and how easily this can be done. I have found something called SplashID but haven't yet read up enough on it. So I'm here among more experienced BB users hoping one of you will have an answer for me, even if it's not the answer I want.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,
C

The switch device wizard should transfer nearly all of your data without any problems. There may be some minor issues with secondary databases that you have installed over and above the core applications.

What is the "switch device wizard"? Is that something in SplashID or the BB apps? I don't see anything like that in the Palm Desktop.

Whether data will be transferred into SplashID is questionable -- that is an add-on program, isn't it? Do you have a whole bunch of data in a secondary Palm db that you are hoping to transfer into SplashID?

It would also depend on the data you wish to transfer. I came from the Treo 600/650 to the BB many years ago.

You can easily sync contacts, calendar notes and tasks from the Palm to Outlook and from Outlook to the BB.

Perhaps I should have been more clear. I have lots of notes associated with contacts and I don't want to lose those. I need to be able to transfer all my contacts intact with the associated notes. Is that doable with either the BB Desktop app djm2 mentioned or otherwise through the Rube Goldbergian translation from Palm to Outlook (yuckpoo) to BB?

Thank you,
C
