I have a blackberry 8900 running on v4.6.1.310. I want to update it, to a better version. I have not got a blackberry plan? How can I update it, without losing all my data, having to wipe it.
Can I do this by using my friends sim card who has a blackberry plan. or will this affect it? Please help. Thanks in advance

1 - Why do you want to upgrade? And what do you want to upgrade to? ..... There is a good argument for leaving things alone unless something is broke or the upgrade will give you something you really need.

2 - You should do a backup manually before you do anything. In fact, you should be doing regular backups anyway. If you haven't, then get desktop manager (download from blackberry.com), install it on your computer, and do a backup.

3 - Generally speaking a data plan is required to upgrade to OS ver 5, but there are work arounds, and the work arounds are discussed on the forum and easy to find using search.
