It's not my phone. Belongs to my boyfriend, but here is the issue:

The phone worked at night, went to bed and when we woke up it was completely non-functional. We assumed the battery had died so he let it charge a an hour or so and tried to turn it on and nothing would happen. No lights, no sounds. Nothing.

Went to Verizon and they basically told us the same thing; that the phone wouldn't turn on and they didn't know why either.

So he's been using a borrowed phone for now, but tonight I had the idea to update the phone via PC. (His phone was a little out-dated). With a little fighting, I got my PC to recognize his phone - updated it and now it turns on! Yay! But, all you can see is the lights under the screen and buttons (the screen itself actually stays black), the red light flashes at the top of the phone and then it beeps like 3 or 4 times then slowly shuts it's self off.

Right now I have the phone charging hoping that it's just a battery issue. Also, you can kind of see a faint line down the middle of the touch screen when you turn it on as well.

Any ideas what might be the problem? It turns on, red light flashes, beeps, can see the lighting under the screen and buttons are on, and a faint line down the middle of the screen and then it shuts off.. Could this be fixable? With the holidays, we cant afford another phone right now. :(

I may have spoke too soon.

Now it's blinking green and is not making the beeping noise. But you can still only see the lighting under the sreen and the faint line down the middle. Im assuming this is a screen problem now, but I have no idea ow to fix that either.

Do you have it set to auto turn off and on?

Did he drop it?

Did it get wet?

What was the last thing he did before this incident happened?

Didn't drop it. Didn't get it wet. It was in his jeans pocket the night before and he was texting and receiving messages before bed. The battery was getting low. He went to bed for the night, woke up to a dead phone and tried charging it, but the phone never fully recovered. We have put in another battery and it behaved the same, so we know its not that.

Was it an 8530 battery?

This phone is a replacement phone. He had broke the screen on his last one months ago by dropping it and this is an insurance phone. But for some reason the insurance didn't carry over with this new phone. So the battery that came with this phone is completely black. I can't tell what kind of battery it is because nothing is written on it.

Update: after letting the phone/battery stay plugged in and charge for the entire night the phone behaves as normal. No weird blinking, beeps or shutting itself off. It turns on and stays on or off like normal. But still no screen. There is still light below the screen but all you can see is a faint line going all the way down the screen. :(

Judging by the pattern of problems for this phone, I'm going to guess that it's just a broken phone. But if anyone has a suggestion or an idea of how to fix or maybe knows what the problem is, I'm all ears.

Sounds like he needs to return it and not carry the next one in his pocket.

Sounds like a broken screen to me. If you are interested you can buy replacement screens online for a relatively low price and there are numerous videos on youtube which guide you through the replacement process.
