Before I bought a BB I named all the songs on my computer using the same format "artist - song title". The songs I have copied to the my BB Tour are in folders named with the album name. The songs are generally identifiable, but when selecting "Albums" some of the albums are listed but mostly each song is listed as a separate album. When I select "Artist" I again get mostly a list of song titles. Would tagging my songs with a program like "mp3tag" solve the problem or should I rename all the songs in a different format? If so, how should the songs be titled?

From your description, I think what you want to do is edit the metadata, as you suggest. The BlackBerry media player is sorting and filing on that, not on file name.

You may want to do it on the computer, delete the files in the music subdirectory, and then sync your music again.

Also, depending on how you go about it, you may need to delete the .dat files after you are done and let the device rescan the media card. If you delete all (hidden and non-hidden) files on the card and re-sync you should be good. If the media player displays the info correctly afterward then don't worry about it.

If you use mp3tag (I use this regularly), you can save yourself some time by using the track information search which grabs album info from freedb and other similar sources. It is very simple and I can guarantee that it works fine with BlackBerrys as this is the method I use regularly for my music.

Thanks to you both. The mp3tag is working great. I have a LOT of music that I recorded off vinyl so I have to do a lot of manual entering but song titles and artists are all happening with the one simple tool for grabbing those from the filename.
