Is there a way to restart blackberry without taking off the baterry or deleting a application?

Are you just trying to find another way to emulate a battery pull or trying to do something else?

Check App World. There are a couple apps that do it.

Anyway, emulate is not a solution for my problem, because i am having issues with IM+ messenger (because there isn't skype mobile for blackberry and I only need for chat) when the chat session expires (after 30 min.) The application get crushed and also blackberry OS, and I can't exit the application nor doing anything else so the only solution is taking off the battery.

But is this a good solution in addition to using the application for longer period thus I would have to take off the battery for a couple of times in a short period. Would this damage the battery or the handheld or affects the OS? Any advice pls.

Sounds like the app you are using isn't compatible with your BB and/or the OS. If that is the case, a crash can do more harm than good, i.e. corrupt files and force you to wipe and reload the OS.

I hope that you have a good backup of all your apps and data.

If IM+ is crashing, it's possible you are having a memory bleed issue. It also depends on what OS you're running. And how many apps you have opened and running.

I would try backing up the BB first! It's essential that you have as many clean backups as you can get.

After it's backed up, I would reinstall the OS or upgrade to a newer version. Newer versions are usually more stable.

Just like a PC, the BlackBerry OS can get slow the longer you use it. I like to reload my OS every couple weeks just to freshen it up. It's much faster. Desktop Manager 6 allows you to reload your OS on top of itself or even install older versions if you like. But, I would upgrade the OS at least. You might even try 6.0.0.424 - it's pretty good. And the official 6.0.0.380 from Vodafone Essar is pretty good too. Although, I expect a 415 official version pretty soon. The official 9650 and 9330 versions of it, thru Sprint, are awesome and the glitches have been fixed (as far as I'm able to find out - without annoying my BBM friends too much :P )

My opinion: Ditch the app....get rid of it.

In the future, experiment with the soft reset and the double soft reset. When that doesn't work, then do the battery pull. In time you will find that the soft reset fixes a lot of problems, but there are some things that require a battery pull.

But if you are having to do a reset all the time, something is wrong, and you should correct it rather than keep doing resets.

Get rid of the app. Find a better one.
