Question EVDO in Ottawa Now?

Please Login to Remove!

I have been grumbling about Bell Mobilty rolling out EVDO in numerous Canadian cities but not in Ottawa, where I work. I emailed them asking when it would be available in Ottawa and they said they didn't know.

Today I was sitting in my truck in the parking lot of an Ottawa mall mindlessly playing on my BB (while "the Boss" was shopping) when 1X changed to EV1X on the top right of the screen. It stayed for about 20 minutes and then changed beck to 1X. I did some web browsing and EV1X was considerably faster than 1X.

Does anyone no if EVDO is now available in Ottawa or if this was just some testing program (I am out of range now so I can't check for myself?)

No info an Bell's website.

Wirelessly posted (7250/4.0.0.204: BlackBerry7250/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

Ottawa and area are quite high on the roll-out list ... There should be some areas that give pretty consistent EVDO access ... Expect the EVDO bubble to get steadily larger and more stable over the next month or so.

I have noticed that there is now a very small pocket of EV-DO coverage in Ottawa. It's in the west end (Kanata area) but not in centertown. Must be a test area cause it only seems to be a couple of miles in diameter

RIM does have some CDMA operations in Ottawa (or at least used to a few years ago).. I would imagine there may be some light coverage in some areas so that the developers can work with it?

Any word on a wider-scale rollout?

Southern Ontario (Ottawa included) is pretty well saturated with CMDA 1x coverage ... EvDO, on the other hand, is still limited to a few major centres with expanded coverage rolling out as the year progresses.
