Im using BB8830 with mtn nigeria. I tried to use the GPS service but did nt work a friend then told me nothing work on BB without BIS. I want to know more cos im new.

what do you mean it didn't work? How did you test it?

The GPS will work, but mapping apps will not because they do require a BlackBerry data plan.

I just click on the Gps from options-advance options-GPS

To get GPS, you need to have location services on and be outside with a clear view of the sky. It can take 20 minutes or more to get a lock. But as dc/dc said, you need a BB data plan to get any of the map applications to work.

And in some parts of the world, GPS from US satellites is blocked.
