Question Two-stage dialing without a pause

Please Login to Remove!

What I'm trying to do is program a number in a contact that dials a "main number" and then immediately dials the contact's extension once the auto-attendant answers. I've played around with the various pause and wait options in a dial string, and that works, but as I see it, there's no reason to insert a 3-second pause. The phone obviously "knows" when the auto-attendant answers (because it triggers the wait or start the 3-second timer at that time), so I'm wondering if there's a way to configure a dial string so that it dials the main number, waits for answer, then dials the extension with no wait (or user interaction).

I am positive that is what the pause is for. No interaction required. Not a wait; a pause. It will pause 3 seconds for the attendant to answer, then dial the second part. I use it for conference call bridges a lot.

True. And the BlackBerry does not know when the robot answers (or what it is saying), at least not BlackBerrys at present. Bad assumption.

Also, consider that there may be need for multiple pauses, as in voicemail (pause to wait for announcement to start, autodial code to enter voice mail, pause to wait for request for mailbox number, autodial mailbox number, pause to wait for request for password, and autodial password). Also, some systems have a longer period after the number is dialed and the robot answers, and have to use multiple pauses. The BlackBerry does not know when the robot starts the announcement.
