I have a 9700 purchased from carphone warehouse and have a poor signal at home.

I have been advised to connect to my wireless router at home using UMA.

I can connet to the router for wifi, but not UMA

On speaking with orange, they advised it was it was because it was not an 'orange' handset

my vendor ID is 301 which is carphone warehouse not 142 which is orange

can I get anything on my phone changed to overcome this?

Nope.
Your phone isn't UMA enabled. Only thing to do is get a Orange Branded 9700

Actually, it IS possible.

You'll need to get into the engineering screen. Be careful in here as you can screw up your device if you're not careful.

Here's how to do it:

1. Go to the engineering main screen
2. click mobile network enginnering screens
3. click Utilities
4. Click Session Manager
5. hit blackberry key and select UMA Options
6. Hit Blackberry key and New
7. Display name = Factory Provisions
8. Operator name = Orange
9. UMA Protocol = UMA V 1.0.3 (this is the default)
10.Uncheck use default UNC address
11. Enter UNC address 'unc.singlephone.orange.co.uk'
12. Provisioning UNC port '14001'
13. Uncheck box for use default provisioning SEGW Address
14. Enter SEGW address 'singlephone.orange.co.uk'
15. SEGW certificate select 'Equifax Secure Certificate Authority'
16. Hit blackberry key and select save

Many thanks for that, but when I go to click on mobile network engineering screens, nothing happens, my mouse icon would normaly change to a hand shape indicating that I am about to click on to another web page but it doesn't.

should the link you sent open up as a html file??

From thehome screen type alt + rt shift + H

Then use the link above on a pc and use the info on the Help Me screen to generate the code on Ziri's escreen code generator (do not close the help me screen.) Once you get the code, just type that code on the help me screen. You won't see anything as you type. Once you enter the last character of the code the help me screen should change to the engineering screen.

think i was doing it right, got the key off the zibri screen and inserted it as requested, but nothing happened :(

You have to enter the info EXACTLY as it is displayed on the Help Me screen and then do not close the screen. On the app version line be sure you include the number in () and on the uptime do not include (seconds)

Then when you get the code, make sure you use alt to get numbers.

on the app version I am including the number in brackets, have tried it with and without the brackets and still nothing

Be aware that you will have to do this again if you update your OS. These settings are not saved during a backup/restore and are lost during an update.
