Default backing up and restoring manually entered contacts

Please Login to Remove!

We just migrated to a new Exchange and BES environment at Intermedia. Their tech support people have told me that I need to wipe the current BB config from each phone and reactivate each phone so it pulls data from the new BES.

I've done this on two phones and it's worked properly. The problem I've run into is that I have some users who have manually entered contacts into the phone and this contact info as far as I can tell isn't saved to the server. When I wipe the phone, we lose those contacts and they don't get pulled down from the new server.

I've run a full backup on the phone, but when you look at the restore options, there is only an option to restore ALL contacts (and it was in fact greyed out).

As an added complexity, some of these users are remote and don't have a cable to connect their BB to their PC.

How can I save the contacts that aren't available on the server and reimport them after I have the phone pointed at the new server?

Thanks much for any help.

You can't save them, the user needs to do so.
And, they'll need a cable.

Thanks for the answer, would you be able to give me a quick idea on what would need to be done if I run across a BB device with this issue and I have it in my hands along with a cable? I ran into it yesterday and told the user he would have to manually enter all the numbers in again. I have to work on the CEOs BB Friday and I have a hunch he may have the same situation and I'd like to have a solution by then . Thank you very much for the help.

It appears from my reading what I need to do is plug the BB into their PC and sync the contacts to Outlook. If there's an easier way please let me know, but that's the route I will plan on taking for now.

Thanks,
a BB newbie

If you allow external emails accounts they can set up wireless sync of contacts with Google via a GMail account.

I can't really seem to find a good place to ask this about contacts so maybe someone might know why this happens...We use a BES 4.1.6, our users use Sprint Bolds, AT&T Bolds, Verizon Bolds, Nextels.....We recently had a group go from a plain cell phone to one of the BB's....what we warned them to do was to take the Old Cell phone and the New BB to the carrier they would use before they go through Enterprise Activation to transfer the contacts off the old Cell to the new BB, then when they activate, those contacts will sync up with Outlook, then in future if they wipe the BB the contacts that are in Outlook will come back through wireless sync. What we are running into are users actiavting email and while no security is applied to the BB they go to the store, transfer the contacts to the BB from the old Cell and although they show up on the BB, they do not sync up with outlook and thus if they wiped the new BB them reactivate the contacts are no where......does anyone know why when it is done that way the BB will not sync up with outlook? Thanks..
