Default New to Blackberry. Good apps?

Please Login to Remove!

I've never used a Blackberry before so I want to know what are good apps for it. I currently have the 8520 model and I'm not really doing much with it.
So what are good apps to have for a BB and how do I install them into my BB?

This is really an individual thing. And it depends on what you are looking for, or what you need. Also, almost all apps are downloaded over the air (OTA). There may be exceptions, but from my perspective there are few desktop downloads. And at any rate, the power of the BlackBerry and the apps is in the mobile data, so you would be wise to have a BlackBerry data plan on your account. (Look up BIS and BES at blackberryfaq.com)

Once you have the BlackBerry data plan, install BlackBerry App World if it is not already preloaded for you. Browse away. Try different apps (at least the free ones) and see what appeals to you.

I'll put in a good word for Pandora. (Look it up.)

Also, if you travel, or even if you don't, Poynt can be very useful.

Downloading apps from App World OTA (Over The Air) is the easiest. Browsing App World is the best way to find stuff. Descriptions, screen shots, and reviews, all in one place and organized by category.

Thanks for the tips. I'll be sure to try the App world.

I'm not planning on getting the dataplan so is it really necessary to have it to use apps on a BB?

You need to have the BlackBerry data plan to use the RIM/Blackberry core apps and add-on apps that require data. Also, many third-party apps require the BlackBerry data plan as well.

Recognize that the BlackBerry plan is in place of, not in addition to, a generic mobile data plan. It is a dat plan specifically for BlackBerry services.

Look at blackberryfaq.com and skim. Look at the article on why you need a data plan.

App World requires a BlackBerry data plan, as do the apps I listed. Without a real BlackBerry data plan you're limited to phone and sms.
