Would appreciate any help you guys can give me:

I would like to buy a BB on ebay in Switzerland ( most say sim unlocked)
and then use it when I am in South Africa by buying a prepaid bundle for
the BB Network. I am completely new to the world of BB and want to make
sure I do not buy a BB that I can then not use (Email.. etc) when I am in
South Africa.

Is it enough if the phone is sim-unlocked or should i pay attention to any other details?

First check with your South African mobile providers to be CERTAIN they offer BlackBerry data packages on prepaid... many do not offer it on prepaid, but only on contract.
