Have just been giving a Blackberry Curve 8900 that was a workphone for a large company. It has now been wiped to factory settings with being locked to vodaphone.

Whats the best way to set it up (aka purchasing a sim card), including having interent + bbm? Would the phone not being registered to me affect being able to set it up?
Also, I have connected to my wifi in the meant time, but cannot see where the browser is?

If the BB was a corporate phone it may have an IT policy that will restrict it quite a bit. You need to find out if it has been removed from the company servers and then you are free to use it. You will need a Blackberry Data plan not a cell data plan to access email, internet and other services .

Check the top of the forum for some further info in the FAQ section about IT policy and other info.

Thanks for that info, After reading that section, it does look like there is an IT Policy on it. Now i can see there are ways to remove this and have a fully functioning phone.
but, since you require a special blackberry data plan, wont the mobile phone company require proof or purchase that this is indeed fact mine (and not just stolen?) Or are you just purchasing a sim card that can be placed in any blackberry?

You give Voda the IMEI and PIN and the carrier should be able to set it up, as long as it has not been reported as lost or stolen and all bills have been paid.

Technically its still owned by the company but have been given authority from a person within to have it (not required anymore). If I remove the IT policy by following the the guide on this website, does this remove alll connections to the companys servers?
Would I then have full function off the phone (ie, certain things are hidden atm).

Then when I phone up the carrier, will I be able to set it all up for personal use, or will they see its listed as a work/buisness phone and then have to contact the company for permission? (Just dont want it to flag up incase it could cause trouble for guy I got it from)
