Default Newbie with email disappearing from server

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I am looking for help with my boss's Blackberry, so I would really appreciate easy going directions on how to make any changes needed.

Our setup for email is as follows: We have our own Exchange server. My boss has his desktop computer accessing his emails, along with his Blackberry and iPad. The way it should be setup is to have the iPad and Blackberry only retrieve new emails but leave them on the server. His desktop is setup to remove the emails from the server.

The iPad part is working fine, it will only get anything new. But when the Blackberry pulls the emails from the server, it also deletes them at that time. I have also seen mention of the Blackberry deleting emails from a server when the user deletes them from the Blackberry. I would like to be able to have the Blackberry retrieve only and not delete them from the server at anytime.

With the iPad, as long as the email stays on the iPad, it will not retrieve the same email again - that is what I am looking to do. I do not want to play around with his Blackberry, since I would not know what I am doing, so that is why I came here looking for help.

Thank you in advance.

George

Are you on a BES?

On the BlackBerry, go into Messages > Menu Key > Options > Email Reconciliation > Delete On = Handheld

Nope... that's not happening. BlackBerry devices don't delete messages from the server when they are pushed to the handheld.

That is possible to do. INstruct the user to configure their device so that deletions only occur on the handheld. This can be achieved several ways. Probably easiest to simply disable wireless reconciliation since it appears you don't want those features anyway.

That's what it's doing now. As mentioned before... it's not able to remove messages from the mail server upon retrieval. Deletions are manual task.

The iPad uses ActiveSync... completely different methodology from the BlackBerry. You can't fairly compare the way it works to the way a BlackBerry works.

You're going to have to "play around" to some extent. The user's device is set up to delete messages from the mailbox when they're deleted from the handheld. You want to turn that off.

If you are on BIS, you need to make sure that you have "leave messages on server" checked on your email client's advanced menu and also on the iPad email set up.

This might help: Some email comes to my BB and some does not - BlackBerryFAQ

I dont know what BIS or BES means.

The iPad is setup and working the way as described...in fact the iPad does not get some of the emails because they are removed off of the server from the Blackberry.

Thank you all for your help.
