and just downloaded the Google Maps

i tried to use Google Maps out of wireless range (altough i have blackberry data plan) it was slow, but when i use in my house, next to the router it's faster.

Define slow? Is you phone showing 3G or EDGE?

I assume "next to the router" means that your phone is connected to wifi at that time. The whole purpose of wifi for phones is to speed up your data throughput.

Ditto. The mapping applications download maps and data on the fly. When you are on the mobile network it will be slower, depending on your connection and throughput.

FYI BlackBerry Maps updates and scrolls faster as you move compared to other apps, if that is important to you.

Re: About Google Maps \ BB Maps
I used to love Google Maps. When I updated my Bold to OS 6 the default install was BB Maps, which I had eschewed for years. I installed Google Maps and was dismayed to see it didn't access the GSP system, instead relying on cell tower triangulation. I recall something a while back about getting it to work, but I figured before I dug into all that again I'd give BB Maps another look.

I was amazed at how far BB Maps has come since I last tried it and hated it. It's definitely faster than Google Maps ever was.
