Default New to BB, general advice plz!!!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,
My wife wants new phone and she have seen BB Curve. In general she wants any BB. My concern is what actually BB is capable of? I am long time iPhone user and I am really happy with the amount of apps available for that platform and integration with iTunes etc. She doesn't like iphone because is too big plus touchscreen keyboard does not work for her.
I am trying to find the best BB available for her needs and that would be:
- skype video conferencing, so front camera requirement,
- gps location between cross platform like google latitude app?
- gps car navigation
I have realised that only BB Torch got front facing camera. I know that new line of BB's coming out this year. Will any of bold or curve have front camera? I was hoping for Bold 9900 but this one unfortunately does not have one nither.
Is there any app store for BB, which shows what apps are available for particular model of BB?
Any advice will be appreciated.

She needs to do some research herself on BBs. Google is a great source. Read our FAQ and read the various threads here. She is the only one who knows what she wants and what she likes.

You need to look at the specs for each of the devices she wants to get and compare them.

There is NO SKYPE available on any BB other than those on the US Verizon network.

Not all BBs have GPS. Make sure the one you buy does.

If you want to use the GPS for car navigation, I strongly suggest either using the carrier's telenav function or a stand alone GPS device. IMHO, BB Maps, Google Maps or any of the other map apps are woefully inadequate for that. See the sticky at the op of the GPS & Map section.

And there's currently no BlackBerry with a front-facing camera.

Im yet to see a good conference call made from a phone, maybe you should get her a sat nav and a portable laptop (11" screen).
I understand that you asking help for a phone but the truth is, if she really need those as a must than it would be worth investing on it and you could let her just choose the mobile or smartphone she fancies most.
I dont mean bad, just trying to be helpful. Smartphones arent the most reliable sources for the needs of your wife as by what you have stated.

Hey!!! Welcome to the forums!!!

*1 - Dont hijack other ppls threads as it might be considered impolite.
Next time just try to create a thread on your smartphone (BB 9500) section of the forum.

Since your here already, try to download and install the BB Desktop Manager available on BB website. From there you can update your BBM.
Otherwise, from your BB browser, download BB App world (if you dont have) and from there browse for the BBM which i think is the easiest way.

If you have any further problems create a new thread on the 9500 section.
