Smile characters in texting

Please Login to Remove!

in afrikaans (spoken in South Africa) we use lots of characters on the alphabet letters like . I know one has to jiggle the keypad when texting to get those characters, however, when sending the message, these characters disappear, it is only the accents to the left and right (as used in french) which work. Can someone help? Scandinavian countries must have the same problme?

It's probably because the person's mail server is stripping the codes. Both your server and theirs need to allow UTF-8.

Just re-read this, and realized it wasn't about e-mail. Sorry. Nevertheless, the other carrier needs to support UTF-8.
