Has anyone ever dealt with Asurion? I had a Blackberry Bold and it fell in the toilet...opppsss! :( So I filed a claim with Asurion, and its on backorder.
Anyway, there is a newer model of the blackberry bold now. So do you think they will send me the older bold or that they will end up sending me the newer one. They tried tell me if I didnt want to wait backordered phone that they would give me Curve or a Storm which they say is comparable--however I disagree. So whats the chances I will end up with the newer model?

Chance of a newer model: 0%. You'll get a refurbished 9650 if they can get one, or a lesser model. I believe you also have to pay a deductable (or is that just with Sprint's TEP?).

I agree with rambo. It isn't likely they will send you a newer model, but it happens on occasion. Usually if a model is out of production for a long time.

You can try calling back to see if another Asurion rep may be a bit more understanding, but make sure you don't take a hard-nosed approach as you will get nowhere. You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

Do read your fine print as the deductible may be as high as $100 or more for smart phones too.....

Yes. I have a deductable. I think its about $99.
I figured I would get the same Bold...but i was being wishful...I really don't want the Storm2 because I heard bad things about it. And the Curve is not comparable to the Bold...so I guess I have to just wait.

If you can't use your phone I would only wait a day or two before I started calling back to press for an upgrade. Again, I would be very nice about it, but let them know the extreme inconvenience caused by the fact they don't have an exact replacement, which is not your fault.

Not true, you might be able to. I had the 9700 and did my claim online in march, well instead of the 9700 , i got to choose from a black or white 9780. Hopefully i'll get lucky again if ever necessary for me to make a claim. Blackberry's are upgraded left and right, so it's possible you can get lucky.

I just had to make a claim with Asurion for my daughter's 9700 and the process couldn't have gone any better. I was informed they have no 9700s except for white so they would send a 9780 in black or white.

I called Sunday evening and it was at my door Tuesday early afternoon.

No reconditioned unit either. Brand new in a sealed box including all accessories, manuals and a new SIM card..

The deductible is a bit high at $130 (tier 4 phone), but if I add up what I spent in full insurance at $5.99 a month for 24 months (through next March) plus the $130, the replacement cost $274. Doesn't seem to be a bad deal to me. TMobile announced an increase in the full insurance to $7.99, but I am still paying the older price.

This is my second time dealing with them in four years and I remain pleased with their service. The reps were very helpful and pleasant both times..
