Go for a Blackberry?
 

Hello guys!

I am thinking of getting my first blackberry (Torch 9810 maybe) and i have some questions before i proceed...

1) How 's the browsing experience? Flash player, play videos through web pages etc. I 've watched some videos on youtube but didn't say much. As i understood, browser on Blackberry 7 OS is match better than previews versions, so if anyone has eny experience from OS 7 would be better.

2) I 've somewhere read that OS 8 is coming in 2012. If i buy Torch 9810, will i be able to do the upgrade when OS 8 comes out?

From my experience with OS7 on a different device (the 9850 Torch), the browsing experience is a huge improvement over older device (I'm sure also due to the faster processor). There still is no flash - that will not come until QNX devices are released next year (which mY be the 'OS8' you are thinking of).

Yeap, i guess that's it.. QNX devices... So, does this have to do with software only? If i buy a blackberry now, will i be able to upgrade it? Or it's just better for me to wait for a while until those devices come out?

I am 99.9% sure that you will not be able to upgrade an OS7 device to QNX. No one has seen the QNX devices so it is impossible to tell!

I agree with NJBB. QNX will be an entirely new OS, so upgrading from OS7 seems unlikely.

I agree as well and I am not sure how I feel about this move. I know all devices have an end of life at some point, but they won't allow non-OS 7 devices to upgrade to OS7, and then they plan on releasing QNX devices in the near future, which will most likely mean the OS7 devices won't be able to upgrade to that OS. Personally, that would makes me want to skip out on OS7 and wait until a QNX device is released.

Yep I agree with jsconyors wait for the OS QNX.

I am intrigued by the new Blackberry divices and went into a Rogers store yesterday. The sales person confirmed your point that the Browser is much improved in OS7. I was also told that the the theoretical connection speed in 3G is double with the new BlackBerries. Could be that a processor at twice the speed and connection twice as fast = better browser performance. May have all to do with the hardware and little to do with OS 7.
With my carrier quietly changing the rules for upgrade eligibility (26 months) I will confirm the same advice as mentioned in a number of posts here and stick with my 9800 until the QNX devices come out and then shop around between Rogers, Bell and Telus for the best deal.

Might be waiting a long time if you are set on the QNX OS. Plus, no one knows how good it will be. Generally the first releases of anything are still work in progress.
